Kaupapa | What we do
Established in 2023, Whāia Charitable Trust is an iwi supported organisation located in Tauranga Moana. Our focus is on achieving broader social outcomes through progressive procurement within the construction and infrastructure sector. Our dual role has us operating at both ends of the supply chain. On one side of the supply chain we provide business development support to build supplier capability and on the other side we work with agencies to enable participation through mitigated progressive procurement strategies. Through our kaupapa, Whāia is positioned to enable the creation of self-sustaining economic pathways for iwi, hapū and the wider community benefit.
Ngā Uara | Values
-
At Whāia we strive to operate in an eco-system versus a system of ego. We aim to maintain, enhance and advance our people and our communities. We are raised with values of manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga and action these internally within our workplace and externally with clientele. Meet as a stranger leave as whānau this is who we are and what is our foundation.
-
We are not a cut and paste business model. Tikanga Māori is central to the manner in which we do business. We strive to form relationships with each other, our clients, agency, partners and others we interact with to form a whānau connection. We always strive to maintain and create valued and meaningful relationships kanohi ki te kanohi or person to person. We believe our ahua Māori tikanga brings important balance to the commercial nature of our business activity. Whāias ethos is “our wealth is not measured by what we have, but by what we can give away”.
-
With our strong stance on relationships we aim to not just talk about it but be about it. We strive to not be agents of lip service whereas our actions do the talking for us. We communicate with our clients throughout the process. If we make a mistake we face up to it and view it as a learning experience. E kore te pātiki e whakahoki ki tōna puehu. The flounder never returns to its murk.
-
Whāia aims for inter-generational success from our people to our kids and on to our mokopuna to continue on. Me waihanga ngā huarahi inaianei hei oranga-tonu-tanga mō ngā mokopuna te haere ake nei. We aim to break down barriers to create a platform so our kids will not need to, whereas our sacrifice will be for their benefit. Being responsive in communication and pro-active in our approach, planning and execution has been our greatest attributor to success which we continue to pride ourselves in.
-
Our organisation is a platform for accommodating the social, economic, cultural and environmental awareness of our people. Our success is measured in our ability to form succession and pathways. We aim at growing and rewarding leadership within the workplace so those attributes can be taken into the home for the benefit of our whānau and communities.
-
We are innovative by nature. We challenge norms to create the best fit for purpose modelling and workplace standards that cater for our being as Māori. We have inherited the gift of intuition and are intentional in exercising this every day in our relations. Whāia has a vision for peripheral outcomes and is important that our success is shared with our kaimahi, whānau and communities.
